CHAPTER 1
Dom pulled back the drapes to welcome in the first rays of the day. Peace, before the bustle of the city began. He needed peace. Standing naked in front of the window he watched the sun touch the snow-capped mountain tops. Glistening light descending the rock face captivated him. Birds, perched up high on branches stooping under snow, greeted the dawn with a melodious chorus harmonizing with the warmer hues of light.
He opened the window and drank in the fresh, icy air, chilling and invigorating. Hearing his wife stir in bed he watched her face as fingers of light and puffs of snowy air caressed her gently awake. He gazed idly at her naked form, the feminine lure, impossible to resist. Wrapping her in a strong embrace, cool skin against her heat, he smiled at her surprise. Her giggles and soft skin stirred his need for her in a way he hadn’t felt for some time. She responded to his touch, and with emotions of love and regret he began the symphony they shared, culminating in a shuddering crescendo.
“Oh my God, look at the time!” Grace sat bolt upright, passion and lovemaking brushed aside. “If I’m late for Mrs. Rawlins she’ll consume me whole, one bite.” Grace owned a business consulting firm and prided herself on being an example of professionalism to her clients. Dom laughed and disentangled his limbs from hers reluctantly letting her break the spell of the beautiful morning. He needed to get to work too, duty and responsibility called, wielding a large stick. He stole one more glance at his wife’s naked behind disappearing into the bathroom and reluctantly rolled out of bed. He should be feeling elated, but dread gnawed at his gut.
Fate was on its way.
